[True story] I tried quitting smoking with CBD.

In April 2020, the revised Health Promotion Act came into full force, and the number of places where you can smoke has decreased dramatically due to the effects of COVID-19. I think many smokers are having a hard time adapting to the changing times.

I myself was a smoker until June 2020. However, after discovering CBD liquid and trying various vape-type CBDs, I was able to barely smoke a cigarette until November, when I am writing this article. Although I still occasionally want to smoke out of habit, I no longer actively feel the urge to smoke.

I will write about my experiences leading up to this point.

Regarding smoking

As for my smoking status, I smoked cigarettes every day for about 8 years. I wasn't a heavy smoker, about one pack every two days, but I liked Lucky Strikes, which hit you right in the throat.

I also like alcohol, so when I drink, I sometimes smoke a pack of cigarettes in one night. I really like the combination of alcohol and cigarettes.

However, even though I was a smoker, I still had some slight discomforts associated with cigarettes, such as the smell on my clothes and fingertips, an unpleasant feeling in my mouth when I woke up in the morning, and a sore throat from smoking too much.

Then, when I started spending more time at home due to the coronavirus, the stress of not being able to go outside caused me to suddenly start smoking more, and I found myself thinking that I needed to cut down.

How I got started

After hearing that an acquaintance who suffered from insomnia was taking CBD oil, he started researching CBD products and discovered vape-type CBD products.

I heard that I could try out vape-type products at a certain store, so I went to try them out. I tried all the flavors of Pharmahemp's full-spectrum CBD liquid Premium Black CBD 500mg (concentration 5%) , and I liked the "Cannabis" flavor so I bought it on the spot.

I've smoked vapes that don't contain CBD before, but I preferred Lucky Strike and couldn't accept the sweet flavors, but "Cannabis" was a hit for me.

I searched for and purchased a vaporizer, a dedicated device for vaping liquid, separately on Rakuten.

When I bought it, I casually declared to the store clerk and the friends I went with that I was going to quit smoking, and I gave up smoking. Since I had declared it, I felt like I might as well give it a try.

It may seem like a vague reason, but I somehow quit smoking because I had access to an alternative, and that's how my smoke-free life began.

About non-smoking lifestyle

In the past, I had tried to quit smoking slowly due to feeling unwell, but I had never used any substitutes and there was nothing to satisfy my craving for cigarettes, so I started smoking again right away.

However, this time I was quite motivated because I had purchased replacement products that were quite expensive (the liquid was around 8,000 yen and the vaporizer was around 1,500 yen).

Whenever I feel like smoking a cigarette, I inhale the liquid. The act of inhaling air into my lungs makes me feel like I'm smoking a cigarette, and the flavor is bitter, so it's satisfying in my mouth. I also feel a little calmer.

However, when I first started, even though there were alternatives available, various triggers would remind me of cigarettes and I would unconsciously try to smoke, but now I have hardened my heart and smoke the liquid.

On the second night of quitting smoking, when this behavior had somehow started to become a habit (it hadn't been that long, but it was a long battle for me), I gave in to my desire and smoked a cigarette that was left over at home.

But it tastes bad and smells bad. The bitterness of the liquid and the action of smoking are enough for me, so I don't really want to smoke cigarettes anymore.

I thought smoking would bring me back to normal, but the negative aspects of smoking compared to vaping, like the cigarette smell and the unpleasant feeling after smoking, became more noticeable, so I immediately stopped lighting up cigarettes.

I tried smoking a month after I had quit smoking because my friend smoked, but it tasted just as bad, so I have been able to live without smoking since then until mid-November.

On the other hand, won't you become dependent on CBD liquid?

When I first started quitting smoking, I smoked a lot because unlike cigarettes, I could smoke anywhere in the room.

However, about a month after I started quitting smoking, I stopped using CBD liquid as a substitute. It wasn't because I had a strong desire to quit, but more like I just didn't know what to do.

Now I smoke wax to relax.

Don't you want to smoke?

Yes. When I see actors smoking cigarettes with a serious look on their face in movies, or people smoking cigarettes at izakayas, I really want to smoke. However, I remember that the cigarettes I smoked after I started quitting smoking didn't taste good, so I feel like I don't need to smoke again.

I've also discovered a technique that allows me to feel fulfilled not only by inhaling CBD liquid at such times, but also by simply taking a deep breath while making the motion of smoking a cigarette.

By the way, even when I talked to people who had quit smoking on their own without using any substitutes, they said that they still felt like smoking even after more than five years since they quit. It seems that some people may continue to feel like smoking for many years.

Other than liquid

As I mentioned earlier, I smoke CBD wax daily, and I've also tried CBD vape pens.

wax

Personally, I don't think CBD wax is a good substitute for tobacco. Because it's too easy to experience the CBD in wax, and it's too relaxing to smoke like tobacco.

I think most of the time I smoke is when I have a break from work, but if I get too relaxed it seems like it could affect my work.

By the way, I use 1.0g of Pharmahemp CBD wax (CBD 680mg (68% concentration)) .

Vape Pen

Other than liquid, I also recommend vape pens. They are very light and easy to carry, and don't require charging. I think this convenience is attractive for cigarette lovers.

When I smoked it, it felt a little more powdery than liquid? It felt dry. The CBD sensation was not as strong as wax, and it was just right even when I smoked it.

However, if you like the bitterness of tobacco, you may find the pen a little unsatisfying at first. Depending on the flavor and the tobacco you are used to smoking, it may feel lighter than when you smoke a cigarette.

I have been using a CBDfx vape pen and am also interested in vape pens that contain terpenes.

Other

I haven't tried the cartridge type yet, but I've heard that it feels the same as liquid. However, if it's highly concentrated, just like wax, if you inhale too much, you may experience too much CBD and become too relaxed. The timing of your inhalation is very important.

Finally

This is a long account of my experience quitting smoking.

It's fine to enjoy smoking, but there are many benefits to quitting smoking, such as not having to worry about the smell and not having to deal with the stress of not being able to find a smoking area when you want to smoke.

If you are interested in alternatives to tobacco or are thinking of trying to quit smoking, you can find a selection of inhalable CBD products here.

I hope this article will be helpful to anyone considering quitting smoking!
